1. Read the ASN first, then whether it is an ISP
Home broadband and datacenter traffic do not look different as numbers. They differ by the autonomous system (ASN) that announces them. Common US residential ISPs include AT&T AS7018 and Comcast AS7922. Common datacenter networks include AWS, GCP, Azure, Hetzner, and DigitalOcean.
Look up the address on ipinfo.io (org / asn, and whether it is hosting). IPinfo uses as.type to distinguish isp from hosting. Some carriers mix residential and hosting in the same range, so you cannot stamp one type on an entire ASN. A paid exit should map to AT&T / AS7018 and should not be labeled hosting.
2. The words “home broadband” are not enough
The ping0 FAQ is explicit: ping0 only splits home broadband vs IDC. Everything that is not IDC is labeled home broadband, including commercial broadband and campus networks. Seeing “home broadband” only means it does not look like a datacenter. Checking that the ASN is an ISP is also not enough by itself.
ping0 labels prefixes by hand and claims about 95% accuracy. Verification order: ASN is AT&T → ping0 is not IDC → then look at risk scores.
3. Risk scores
Scamalytics scores 0–100. The official API marks 0–19 as low. The number is an approximate probability that this IP range has been associated with fraud.
IPQS exposes fraud_score, proxy / vpn, and connection_type (often Residential). The docs treat 75+ as risky.
ping0 risk values: under 15 is extremely clean, under 50 is generally treated as safe, 70+ can be blocked; home broadband can still score high. No vendor score equals ChatGPT / Claude / Gemini risk control.
4. Connect once yourself
Use the exit to open the service you actually care about. A session that stays up is more useful than three screenshots.
